Trip details
Anopolis mountain plain
We drive to our starting point, the mountain village of Anopolis, on the mountain plain, high above the Libyan sea. The drive there from Chania town takes approx. 2hrs.
Starting from the main square in Anopolis, we head eastwards through olive groves and finally join the old mule-track that was once the “Palios Thrómos” ( = the old road) traversing the mountain plain from east to west. Now rarely used, it’s a haven for wild flowers, offering great views across the plain and the southern flanks of the Lefka Ori mountains behind. From the hamlet of Kambia we circle round to Agios Dimitrios, from where we then head back to the main village square. Once back in Anopolis, possible visit to a local herb producer to find out about locally grown malotira (mountain tea), local herbs and their importance (upon request).
